Is saying something is dead, dead?

As cliche as it can be I think saying something is dead….is dead.  The article “Marketing is Dead” by Saatchin & Saatchin Worldwide CEO Kevin Roberts claimed that “in today’s crazy world strategy is dead, the big idea is dead, management is dead and marketing, as we know, is also dead.”  In short he believes management and strategy smother creativity and engagement.

My question here is….without proper management and strategy how do you be creative and engage? Without the “big idea” how can we unite under one brand name and purpose to achieve our goals? There are so many things I see wrong with this article but one good thing I do take away is this: “Everyone wants a conversation. They want inspiration. Inspire people with your website. Don’t just interrupt, but interact. Asking about Return on Investment is the wrong question today. You should be asking about Return on Involvement.”

But I do not believe that can be achieved without proper strategy, the big idea, and management. Without the strategy and big idea companies would just be running around all avenues of social media like a chicken with their head cut off. Then again….he is the CEO of one of the worlds largest marketing groups, so I guess i’m wrong.
